LEDs

1. Describe what LEDs are

light-emitting diode (LED) is a two-lead semiconductor light source. It is a p–n junction diode, which emits light when activated. When a suitable voltage is applied to the leads, electrons are able to recombine with electron holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons. This effect is called electroluminescence, and the color of the light is determined by the energy band gap of the semicon.

2. Why is it more efficient

LEDs are more efficient than incandescent bulbs because LEDs last longer and use less electricity.

3. In what country do we use LEDs?
United States

4. Who use LEDs
Signals, remote controls, MP3, cell phones, digital clocks, etc.

5. What devices in home use LEDs?
Digital clocks, cell phones, MP3, etc
